Description
Key Features
- Weight tested from 2 kg (4.4 lb) to 9 kg (19.8 lbs)
- Realistically works right from day 1, and can work really well for lower birth weight babies and those born prematurely.
- Supportive enough that will continue to work for as long as you and baby want to continue using it. Babies tend to grow out of carrier developmentally rather than physically, typically somewhere between 3-6 months, although this varies a lot baby to baby. This carrier will continue physically fitting most babies to around 9 months.
- Great option for tandem carrying newborn twins as well as singletons
- Fits all shapes and size parents, Mums and Dad’s alike. Easy to adjust between caregivers of very different shapes and sizes sharing a carrier.
- Large supportive back panel
- Easy pull on design makes it fast to put on and take off as needed
The Koala Cuddleband is a great option for anyone who likes the idea of a stretchy wrap but are put off by tying involved. It offers the same softeness and closeness provided by a stretchy wrap but much of the tying has already been done for you. Allowing you to simply pull the Cuddleband over your head, much like putting on a t-shirt. Then easily adjust the size via the rings to give you a perfect fit and then baby is popped in and the final panel simply tied around you both. Easy Peasy.
Because the carrier can be adjusted to fit you, it fits a wide range of parent shapes and sizes, men and women alike.
It is incrediably similar to the Close Parent Caboo which has been a long time library favourite. The only real difference between the Koala and the Caboo is the presence and absence of the panel at the back. The Koala has a wide panel at the back of the carrier. Some parents like this and report it to be very supportive, while others find it restricts the verstility of the carrier. Certainly the Caboo is a little more versatile and it is a little easier to twist the straps more more space around babies face and it is possible to do hip carries and other variations with the Caboo that aren't possible with the Koala due this back panel (you can see all the variations possible with the Caboo here - 9 different ways to use a Close Caboo.) The back panel can also a be a little more sweaty than the Caboo too! So it really comes down to wether you'd appreciate the presence of the bigger back panel or would prefer less bulk/less stuff for more options. Otherwise both carriers are extremely similar and the overall method to use both is exactly same (and shown in the first tutorial in the 9 ways link above).
Hire it and see how it works for you. If you love it, you can purchase your own here. Or choose a 12 week hire to rent for the whole 4th trimester - saving both the planet and your wallet from bying something new that you'll only need for a few months.
Note - the Cuddleband comes in 2 different models - the Cuddleband 1; 65% Polyester, 30% Cotton, 5% Spandex; and the Cuddleband 2; 97% Cotton, 3% Elastane. The main difference between these is the thickness of the material, the Cuddleband 2 being almost completely cotton is quite a bit thicker and warmer than the Cuddleband 1. The Polyester-cotton blend of the Cuddleband 1 is much thinner and cooler and slightly textured. Opt for the Cuddleband 2 if you want something softer yet thicker, stronger feeling or for the colder winter months. Conversely for warmer summer months or if you are looking for something lighter, cooler and less heavy feeling opt for the cuddleband 1.
